What to Do When Your Golf Cart Motor Runs But Nothing Happens

Golf Cart Motor Runs But Nothing HappensLet's say you decide to take your E-Z-Go, Bad Boy, or Cushman golf cart out for a spin. Everything starts up just fine, the motor is running, you put a foot to the pedal and... nothing happens. You may be wondering what the problem could be and what you can do about it. Today, we'll take a look at a few reasons for this common golf cart problem.

How to Find Out the Problem

Jack up your golf cart and try to turn one of the rear wheels. If the wheels don't turn, you're probably looking at a stripped axle. This will require service and replacement. If the wheels do turn, there are a few other issues that may be occurring here, such as a problem with the input shaft.

You may need to take the motor out to get a better look. Before making any alterations within the motor compartment, clearly mark where any and all wires connect, or take detailed photographs so you'll be able to replace everything later on. Check to see if there's a bushing on the motor, where the shaft connects. If this area has been stripped, it will need to be replaced as well.

What If It Does Run, But Only For a Few Minutes?

If your golf cart starts up fine and you're able to take it short distances, but find that after a few minutes it simply comes to a stop, you may be looking at a problem with your solenoids. If these have begun to break down, you'll likely need to replace them in order to get your golf cart up and moving again. Luckily, replacing the solenoids is quick and usually doesn't present much difficulty.
